Empowering Youth Through Connections
Building career networks can meaningfully contribute to economic mobility
Our resources are here to help both youth and adults understand the power of social capital and why building a network of career connections is important.
With activities to grow professional networks, and valuable guidance about career exploration, we empower youth to take charge of their future while equipping adults with the knowledge to support them along the way.
When young people build career networks, they can open doors to opportunities that lead to brighter futures and lasting success.

Understand
Economic Mobility Through Career Networks
Creating career networks is a form of building social capital. What is social capital and why is it important to drive economic mobility in underserved youth?
We seek to help increase the probability of economic mobility of first generation and immigrant children, and those from low-income families through the building of career networks.
This section of our resources unpacks what social capital is, how it is related to networking, and how networking can be advantageous for youth as they look for careers that will bring them both satisfaction and financial success.

Robyn Faucy
0:16This TEDx Talk is about social capital by Robyn Faucy, CEO of Results 1st, resonated with us because of Robyn’s personal story and message to act with intentionality in sharing social capital. Importantly, Robyn points out that “we do not need an excess of social capital to help someone else” and that “when we extend our social capital to someone, our store of social capital does not deplete”. While her talk was not specifically focused on youth, we think that the approaches she lays out can be incredibly beneficial if extended by adults to students they work with who may not have abundant access to social capital.
